A gourmet’s delight! The milk of the sea Buzen Sea Oysters

The Buzen Sea to the east of Kitakyushu produces delicious oysters that are a gourmet’s delight. These Buzen Sea Oysters are called hitotsubu (“select”), because the oystermen carefully polish each individual shell. Since the Buzen Sea is rich in plankton, which the oysters feed on, they grow to be distinctively plump and tasty. The Kitakyushu area in particular, with Kitakyushu Airport forming a breakwater, is home to large oysters.
The Shunkan Watchword is “Bounty of the Buzen Sea.” Our reporter visits the Sone district of Kokuraminami-ku for a lip-smacking investigation of Buzen Sea Oysters.
